This is a reminder that I’m hosting a happy hour today for anyone in the DC area with an interest in Africa. I hope to see some familiar faces and meet some readers I haven’t met before. All are welcome!
Details:
- Date/Time: Thursday, November 8, 6-8pm
- Location: Science Club (map), 1136 19th St. NW, Washington DC
The agenda is informal conversation.
Its a rare opportunity to have some chats and brews with some Africanists. Let me know next time you’re in the great white north!
If the great intellectual ferment that took off at Ibadan in the sixties with the likes of Ulli Beier and Soyinka had continued, such a gathering would have been held there.
It makes me sad to note that the finest scholarship on Africa is being written by non-Africans based outside Africa.
Hopefully we can do a similar event in Dakar, Lagos, or elsewhere one day.
