  1. I have not heard much out of Algeria that would refute the reporting. And as you mention, they have been behind the scenes the entire interregnum.

    This coincides also with high visibility hostage taking in Mauritania. Wondering how the hostages went from the Atlantic ocean somme 3,000 km north into “probably” Mali just like that. The famous ould Sheikh (ref: the article from Globe & Mail on Fowler/Guay) called for help again to negotiate for the release of these hostages. Hope the hostages takers will not ask for the release of a high value Qaida operative somewhere and the release refused. I read a recent piece from Menas/Keenan and on the basis of that eading the outcome of this is rather worrying. Capitals can stop this, but they don’t want. Why?
